AAR: BKC Germans Vs Russian September 1944
Last night we got in a game of Blitzkrieg Commander with the Friday Night Gaming Group. I have been collecting and expanding my FoW collection quit a bit lately and wanted to use my new Panzer IV/70's. Since only a hand full of us play FoW (3) we often play BKC as a large group (6-10) and it is normally Russians vs Germans since my Dad and I own alot of Russians and Germans.
The Germans found them selves in a defensive position being attacked by the Russians in the fall of 44'. The Germans had to hold two objects while the Russians had to smash through their lines and taken the objectives. The German players started that game with all their infantry and guns deployed on the table with their tanks in reserve while the Russian started that game with their infantry on the table and their tanks moving on immediately on the first turn with out having to make command checks. The German player can start their infantry and guns dug in. This will make their cover one better and give the guns a save of six when hit from the front. They cannot dig in in the buildings.
Her are the forces that we used to fight the battle.
2x 120mm Mortar
6xInfantry + Panzerfaust
6xInfantry + Panzerfaust
Tank Hunter Platoon
4x Panzer IV/70
Tank Hunter Platoon (in Ambush)
Heavy Tank Platoon
Anti Tank Platoon
3x PaK 40
Woods: High Area Terrain, difficult going
Wheat Fields: Low Area Terrain regular going
Plowed Fields: difficult going for all vehicles
Rail Road Track: Counts as a road, embankmanets offer cover as linear terrain
Road: Counts as road
Fences: Liner Terrain that can be seen through
Buildings: Give Hard cover, but no save bonus for infantry
The Germans deployed back from the railroad and the Russians surged forward over the tracks and down the road.
A group of Shermans and T-34's tried to outflank the Germans by heading south
While the other Shermans rushed forward only to be caught in a cross fire.
The other Shermans looked on with great fear
While the T-34s coward in the rear
The Germans then began littering the fields with the wreckage of Shermans from both platoons
So the T-34s tried to sneak around the side
But where ambushed by Hetzers
The Russian Infantry started to push on one of cottages and the Hezters where force to pull back.
Meanwhile the big Cats finished off the Shermans
And Soviet 82mm mortars poured it on between milk breaks
The T-34's got in the trees and knocked out the first German Tank
Then after bring most their guns to bear began peppering the German armor
The Pak40 ambushed knocking out one T-34, but the sheer wieght of soviet fire power began to takes it toll on the German infantry and guns.
Eventually the Germans broke, but the Big Cats got away to fight another day...
We hard a great game. The Germans did really good at the beginning and knocked out a lot of Shermans, but once the T-34 massed fire they cut through the Germans. Eventually the Germans reach their break point and failed command. Moderate Russian Victory.
